How to Hire a Contractor
The SHBA is Your Building Resource
We want you to enjoy your construction experience, whether it's a new home or remodeling your existing home. The SHBA is proud to provide the following information to assist you through the home buying process.
From selecting a licensed contractor to providing information on home maintenance the following information will help you through the maze.
We encourage you to pay particular attention to hiring a contractor. So often, we hear the horror stories. The most common complaint comes from using unlicensed contractors. Since the unlicensed contractor has no insurance and pays no taxes, this could become the homeowner's responsibility if they are injured or cited for working without a license. Worse yet, if your project is badly built, you have no recourse.
Fortunately, there are over 5,000 registered contractors in Eastern Washington. While not every one of these contractors is a member of our Association, we encourage you to consider hiring one of our members, who are all registered and bonded, for your next project.
