Building Futures: SHBA Invests in NEWTech Students

Building Futures: SHBA Invests in the Next Generation of Skilled Tradespeople

Through Frame Your Future, the Spokane Home Builders Association is helping create hands-on learning opportunities that connect students with the construction industry and prepare them for successful careers in the skilled trades.

The future of the building industry starts with the next generation, and the Spokane Home Builders Association (SHBA) is proud to play a role in helping students develop the skills and experience needed to succeed.

Through our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Frame Your Future, SHBA recently partnered with NEWTech to help bring an exciting new construction learning opportunity to life. The Home Builders Association donated two concrete slabs that will serve as the foundations for two approximately 1,000-square-foot project homes right on NEWTech's campus.

These foundations are the starting point for something much bigger.

Building Real-World Skills Through Hands-On Learning

The project will allow students enrolled in NEWTech's Construction Trades program to build and disassemble the project homes each year. This allows students to experience the construction process firsthand while providing future classes with the same valuable learning opportunity.

From concrete work and framing to the many stages of residential construction, students will gain practical experience while learning alongside industry professionals. They'll have the opportunity to develop technical skills, understand jobsite expectations, and see how the concepts they learn in the classroom translate into real-world careers.

For students considering a future in construction, opportunities like this can make all the difference. They provide exposure to the industry, build confidence, and help students discover the many rewarding career paths available in the skilled trades.

Industry Partnerships Make It Possible

Projects like this demonstrate what can happen when education and industry come together with a shared goal. By investing in hands-on learning environments, local builders and industry professionals are helping bridge the gap between the classroom and the workforce.

A special thank you goes to our Workforce Development Committee for their dedication and continued commitment to developing the next generation of construction professionals. We also want to recognize Leif Challender with Camco Construction for his time, hard work, and support in helping bring this project together.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this project possible and to NEWTech for providing students with opportunities to learn, grow, and explore careers in construction.

The Mission Behind Frame Your Future

At the Spokane Home Builders Association, supporting the future of our industry means more than advocating for builders. It means investing in people, creating educational opportunities, and helping develop a strong, skilled local workforce.

That's the mission behind Frame Your Future. As SHBA's 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Frame Your Future works to support workforce development and create connections between students, education, and the building industry.

We believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore a career in the trades, gain valuable experience, and discover a path toward a successful future.

The NEWTech project is a great example of what can happen when our community comes together to make those opportunities possible.

We're proud to help build more than homes. We're helping build skills, careers, and the future of our industry.
